Winner of #GivingTuesdayCNY Announced

December 10, 2013 (Syracuse, NY) – The winner of last week’s #GivingTuesdayCNY social media contest, hosted by the Central New York Community Foundation, is Helping Hounds Dog Rescue in DeWitt!

In just 24 hours, the local philanthropic social media contest garnered more than 5,000 unique votes for more than 200 different nonprofits across Central New York. A list of organizations that were nominated during #GivingTuesdayCNY can be found on http://www.cnycf.org/givingtuesday.

Helping Hounds Dog Rescue won the contest with 500 unique votes on #GivingTuesday. Exactly 12 months ago, Helping Hounds was at serious risk of closing. And now, a ceremonial check for $5,000 will be presented to the Dog Rescue on Friday, December 13 at 2:30 pm.

#GivingTuesday is a national movement established to mobilize charities, families, businesses, nonprofits and people like you, to come together and give more. This year, #GivingTuesday was celebrated on Tuesday, December 3, 2013. And to celebrate, The Central New York Community Foundation created its own social media competition using the hashtag #GivingTuesdayCNY to encourage Central New York audiences to rally for their favorite local nonprofits and help to give them additional publicity.
Audiences were asked to tweet via Twitter or post on the CNY Community Foundation’s Facebook wall with the name of their favorite CNY nonprofit and the hashtag #GivingTuesdayCNY. The nonprofit with the most hashtag tweets and Facebook posts by 11:59:59 PM EST December 3rd wins a $5,000 grant from the CNY Community Foundation.
