Future Fund of CNY Awarded $5,000 Grant
May 12, 2010 (Syracuse, NY) – The Future Fund of CNY has awarded a $5,000 grant to Mercy Works, Inc. to support the organization’s seven-week Synergy professional workforce development program. The program provides college students with an opportunity to learn workplace skills by pairing them with local employment in their academic field of study.
The award ceremony and annual party for The Future Fund took place on May 19, 2010 at Syracuse University’s VPA Warehouse building in Armory Square, with The Near Westside Initiative as this year’s sponsoring host. Maarten Jacobs, Director of the Near Westside Initiative will give a short presentation about their efforts to rehabilitate Syracuse’s Near Westside, a neighborhood visible through panoramic windows at the party location. Also at the event, DJ Devon, a VPA student, will provide background “lounge” music.
The Future Fund of Central New York, a component fund of The Central New York Community Foundation, is a giving circle established to involve and empower emerging philanthropists to make the Central New York community a better place to live and work. Its membership is involved in building a charitable endowment and providing grants in program areas that change each year based on the vote of the membership.
