Community Foundation Awarded Two Snow Memorial Trust Grants

August 20, 2009 (Syracuse, NY) – The Central New York Community Foundation has been awarded two grants from the John Ben Snow Memorial Trust.

A $15,000 challenge grant has been pledged to the Greater Pulaski Community Endowment Fund, a component fund of the Community Foundation. The Snow Trust will provide dollar-for-dollar matches of contributions on or before December 31, 2009. This grant follows one of the Memorial Trusts’ guiding principles – to encourage the participation of other donors to a worthy cause.

The Greater Pulaski Community Endowment Fund was established in 1992 to provide financial resources to the nonprofit organizations of the Village of Pulaski and Town of Richland. The Fund has received annual support from the John Ben Snow Memorial Trust since it was formed. Since the Fund’s inception, more than $160,000 in grants has been made to nonprofit groups serving the area.

The Pulaski Fund also received a $15,000 challenge grant from the Snow Memorial Trust last year. As a result, a total of $30,115 was contributed, the most ever raised in a single year by the fund since its inception.

A $25,000 grant was awarded to the Community Foundation’s Strategic Partnership Fund. The Fund was established this year to support projects that facilitate nonprofit collaboration.

The Strategic Partnership Fund supports projects that involve the collaboration of two or more nonprofits in ways that result in enhanced program delivery and more effective and efficient use of limited financial and human resources.

“Our partnership with the John Ben Snow Memorial Trust is an example of how two philanthropic organizations can work together to create positive change,” said Peter Dunn, Community Foundation President and CEO. “We are grateful for their continued support and hope our collaborative efforts will positively impact the region for many years to come.”

The John Ben Snow Memorial Trust was established after the death of its namesake, a successful businessman who was born and raised in Pulaski, NY. Trustees grant funds for educational, scientific and humanitarian purposes that align with Mr. Snow’s beliefs, values and ideals.
