2007-2008 John F. Marsellus Sabbatical recipients announced

January 25, 2008 (Syracuse, NY) – The Central New York Community Foundation is proud to announce the 2007-2008 John F. Marsellus Sabbatical recipients:

Virginia Donohue, Founder/Executive Director, On Point for College

Mary Keough, Founder and Executive Director, Sarah House

Ms. Donohue, founder and executive director of On Point for College since 1999, plans to visit three national college access experts to learn how they guided organizations through the transition to become larger and sustainable. Ms. Keough, the founder and executive director of Sarah House since 1994, intends to visit two houses similar to Sarah House to learn how they structured and carried out their growth.

The John F. Marsellus Sabbatical was created in 2000 to provide not-for-profit executives with the unique opportunity to revitalize and reflect on their organizations. The Sabbatical recognizes that not-for-profit executives face the day-to-day rigors of meeting increasing service demands with limited resources, draining even the best-intentioned executives.

This sabbatical program was established by the Central New York Community Foundation in memory of John F. Marsellus who was committed to enhancing the leadership capacity of not-for-profit executives in central New York. By affording the recipients a month-long opportunity for personal reflection, professional development and research, this sabbatical honors Mr. Marsellus’s commitment to strengthen not-for-profit leadership.

Past recipients like Sandra Martin of Home Aides of Central New York attest to the profound impact the John F. Marsellus Sabbatical has had on their professional and personal lives. “The sabbatical gave me an opportunity to gain perspective, says Sandra, “I now think about challenges in the context of a larger world where communities lend each other wisdom and support.”
